Libero Puccini

Libero carved the "Camp Atterbury Rock" which still stands at the entrance to the Camp.  He was in the hospital when his fellow POWs built the Chapel in the Meadow.  He returns to Camp Atterbury each year for the Re-dedication ceremonies at the Chapel.  He lives with his son in Alabama. Hello Friends,

Liberos son, who is home on emergency leave from Iraq, phoned me yesterday to announce that his father Libero passed away at 08:30 hrs. He had a stroke a couple of weeks ago and was paralyzed on one side.

A couple of days ago, he realized it was his time to go and he refused any liquids or nourishment. He went” His Way” according to his son.

He wanted to be sure to pass on to us that his father really enjoyed our friendship and that his Atterbury family added happiness to his life.

The family chose to contact me as I am the one who started our relationship back in the 1990s when we located Libero and his wife Lydia and made him part of our remembrances of WWll.

Arrangements are pending at DiCicco- Berry Funeral Home, 23040 Center Ridge Rd , West Lake, Ohio 44145. phone 440-331-0999

Services are to be on Thursday, 24 July.

The family was hoping that Libero would be remembered during our 2008 remembrance services at Camp Atterbury. They will be posting a memorial site on Mem.com for comments.

Perhaps CAVMA & the American- Italian Society could send flower arrangements.
